Formed in 1976 and sponsored by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 554 (Rockland), 1st Rockland is part of the Odawa Area, Voyageur Council and is located approximately 40 kilometres east of downtown Ottawa; however, the City of Clarence-Rockland abuts the border of the City of Ottawa. The City of Clarence-Rockland is a fast growing community that appeals to young families with its mix of urban and rural areas.

We currently have one section of Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Scouts with a good progression of youth to the next level. All of our leaders have youth in the Group and are very interested in providing an interesting and challenging program for them. We also believe in keeping the "out" in scouting with hikes, camps, canoe training (flat and white-water) and outdoor skills development. Activities are age appropriate but there are also linking activities with the older sections to give the younger members an idea of what is to come.It is also important that there is personal development through the interaction with others in a non-family/non-school environment. This applies to Leaders and parents as well as the Youth.

The opportunity is there for adults to partake in new experiences and develop new skills which can translate into other areas of life. We are always looking for interested adults who have an interest in sharing in making memorable memories with our youth. There are some changes and a screening process to ensure the safety of all our youth.

The Scouting Group participates in various community events throughout the year including Canada Day celebrations, Remembrance Day, Christmas Parade and community cleanup days. The Group also sponsors and organizes an annual flea market on the holiday Monday in May. Each year we take over the parking lot of Grenon's Your Independent Grocer and provides spots, tables, food and activities for bargain shoppers from all over. This year we expect over 150 sellers and over 2000 shoppers.

Rockland Scouting continues to provide activities and opportunities as part of youth and adult development. For many parents, seeing Scouting brings back memories of the challenges and excitement they experienced as a youth. Whether it be racing cars or trucks they built themselves or going on an extended canoe trip, being able to provide these opportunities for today's youth, is what Rockland Scouting is about.
